Summer Fair Quilt Show

I chose Carly's Quilt for the Gen X Summer Fair Quilt Show. I wanted a warm, snugly, bright colored quilt for my youngest daughter, Carly. My first thought was to make it a small, crib sized quilt that she could sleep with every night. Then I realized that she had a ton of blankets that would serve that exact purpose.

So I changed gears. I decided to work with bright colored flannels and make a large quilt that we could spread out on the floor, stack some pillows and have a movie night. A blanket that all 3 kids could snuggle under. A warm, weighted quilt that would keep away the winter chills when the wind is blowing at 80 MPH right outside our window.

Before I make a quilt, I picture how I'll use it. Which bed, sofa or child will it cover? Which season do I picture in the backdrop? A light summer quilt with a buttery voile backing?  A heavy, warm flannel for the long, dark Alaskan winter?

This quilt is used every day. It is spread across the living room floor, stacked with toys, lego-minifigures and sippy cups. I love the bright colors, soft feel of the flannels and the way it drapes over us when we climb underneath for the night. This is Carly's Quilt.
